[it's after her shift one day when Emily specifically seeks Aerith out - she hasn't quit yet, but she still plans to - and is glad for her still running deliveries, because it means they can talk about any host of things. but today, she has a Look that says someone has a question, and she does.]

I find myself in need of plant-based advice, if I could beg your ear for a moment.

[ A basket stuffed with roses is in hand, today. The petals smell of fine wine: They are, unsurprisingly, sweets. She leaves it on the bar counter, whipping towards Emily with a wide smile.

It's a turn of phrase, but Emily doesn't have to beg Aerith for anything. (Well, not at work, at least.) ]

Sounds really important to you when you put it that way. What's up?

I want to get a houseplant.

[and as she says it, she's painfully aware that it might not be as important as she's making it sound, but it feels a certain way. it feels necessary, something to help this little apartment she's trying to breathe life into.]

But there are so many options that I'm frankly lost as to where to start. Of course, I wouldn't ask this of you without being willing to offer a favor in return.

[ A favor's a favor. She thinks that, with all her experience with plants and life at large, this is a hugely unfair deal. Maybe there's more to it? With a thoughtful hum, she plucks a mint from the cannister at the end of the bar, and pops it into her mouth. ]

That depends on a lot... like your schedule, why you want one, how much time you can spend with it... What your place is like, too.

[ They can be as demanding a pet, really, so making sure to give her the right advice is important. ]

So, let's start with this one. What do you want to get a houseplant for? No wrong answers!

Because I think it would be nice to have something living with me. Something that might bring a little more color into the space. My apartment is fairly small - the same as the rest of us - but if I'm to live there, I'd like it to be comfortable instead of bleak.

Good morning, Aerith. I hope you found yourself home well after the downpour last night.

I have a question for you. Do you know a Cloud?

[ This is a delight, even if her text-tone doesn't imply it immediately. ]

aww, you met him already? i was hoping to introduce you guys. yep, i know cloud! what'd you think?

What I think of him wasn't my concern. He spoke to me of the world he came from, and I recognized Shinra from your world. After our last conversation, I decided it was safest to double-check.

[ Which is to say, he had been worried that Aerith would be in danger if Cloud was notified of her presence. But this is an awfully casual text, so... ]

You two are friends, then?

[ uhhh that is a COMPLEX QUETION. (It isn't, but Aerith isn't sure if she should elaborate, and how deep that should go. It's not like she wants to scare anyone...?) ]

pretty much! cloud's got the green light. he knows about me, too. everything.

what'd he tell you about shinra?

Everything. Okay. Good to know.

[ That's a relief. It had just been the one meeting, but honestly, he had liked Cloud. Just like he had liked Aerith immediately after meeting her. Is there something in the water over in their world? ]

He told me that they were in charge of an organization he used to belong to but managed to escape. And that they own the city he's from. It was all very much in line with what you've told me.

[ Also, he thinks he may have some sort of memory problems? We're just not going to talk about that one. ]

i'm alright, thank you. if you wanna help around the clinic, i'd be happy to put you to work, though. we've been seeing some more people since the rain let up. thankfully, it seems like things are starting to rebuild. jeez, we were just getting back from the night parade... talk about poor timing.

[ It takes a moment. Her text comes back, simple and straight to the point. If the faction heads know yet, they'll say something and there's no point hiding it. ]

[Barnaby may have only met Aerith once, but she had been kind to him and therefore made an impression. So he was devastated to learn what had happened to her, that he had been too busy defusing bombs everywhere else in town to hear about the attack until it was too late.

Nonetheless, he sends her a message the next day, when she's hopefully had some time to be treated and rest.]

Aerith, it's Barnaby. I'm very sorry to hear about what happened yesterday, and I hope you and your employees make a swift recovery. ['Gardeners are tough,' she had said, but they're certainly not invincible.]
